Who is Ms. Peer?

With a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature, and a few years of coaching experience, I was hired as an elementary school teacher at a small private school in northern Virginia.  Although I was a strong 'new' teacher, I felt the proper educational training would enable me to be the most effective teacher I could.  So I made the decision to go back to school and pursue my certification in secondary education.  And although the $22,000 price tag was a hefty one, my experience in the MAT program at University of Maryland University College has been priceless for my future career.  The program has prepared me for the rigors, challenges, and rewards of teaching in any classroom.

According to the Conceptual Framework of the Professional Education Unit of UMUC, the Unit, "...seeks to surpass boundaries of time and place, conceptions about the limitations of students, and maintenance of the status quo in teaching, learning and leading.  Through innovative online instruction and dynamic field-based experiences, candidates not only experience education that reaches beyond these boundaries, they also are prepared to implement transformational instruction in their own classrooms" (3).

Please take a few moments to view my work (and work-in-progress) as I strive to teach beyond boundaries.
